Sugar Free Challenge

So ever since I posted this blog post in early March, I've been trying harder to reduce my sugar intake. Remember this article? Woof. Sugar is so evil. I actually started a few months prior when I started feeling groggy after my yogurt/berry lunches that were always topped off with 2-3 little chocolates that were left around the office kitchen.  That's a whole lot of sugar. Even though yogurt and berries are both healthy - I had been eating flavored chobanis, dried fruit, and frozen berries. Add a couple chocolates and I was basically asking to crash.

So, I started bringing chicken that I'd make from the night before, pea pods, hard boiled eggs, baked chickpeas, beanito chips etc. I'd still eat my fruit, of course, but the center of my meal revolved around a protein with little or no sugar. Guess what happened? I stopped crashing after lunch. (what a concept! <insert sarcasm>)

Since the blog post, I've been cutting down on my nightly gelatos and I've completely removed sugar from my coffee. Guys, I used to LOVE sugar. I mean, swedish fish, sour watermelon slices, chocolate in any form... gimme. But recently (and I mean RECENTLY) I haven't been craving or enjoying sugar, as much. I still have a couple little pieces of 70%+ dark chocolate at night after dinner and I've had some dessert when I go out to eat, but, I'm no longer addicted. It's kind of a weird feeling. I mean, I thought since I removed the candies like swedish fish and sour watermelons from my diet yearssss ago, I was over sugar. What I didn't realize or pay attention to, was the excess sugar from my yogurts, milk, jam on toast, a couple chocolates here and there, etc.

So here's my challenge you... will you cut out some sugar with me? Yes, even if it looks like beautiful unicorns. Here are the rules: no excess sugar Monday - Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are ok if you go out to eat or someone bakes, etc. Cut out or reduce the sugar in coffee. No sugary cereals, soda, flavored yogurts, etc. (read your labels). 70+% dark chocolate is approved (antioxidants, baby!). My next step is to completely cut out my nightly ice cream/gelato. I've started to cut it out, but, I'm ready to go cold turkey now.

LIKE on Facebook and/or RT on Twitter if you are going to join me. Challenge ends on 5/25 (day of the Run to Remember half marathon). I want to hear how you all feel on that day. I'll be posting progress and helpful hints throughout the way. All who join will be entered to win a gift from me (fitness related, of course).

WHO'S IN!?

Have an awesome week. xo

Catching up...

Oh boy Oh boy! Where do I begin? So sorry for the hiatus. Let's consider this an extended version of "Friday Favs" since I've missed the last two! It's been a busy couple of weeks. I said goodbye to my friends at Crabtree, went on vacation, and said hello to my new friends at Legacy Place. My first day in the office was today and I am BEYOND excited! BEYOND.

Also, can we talk about this weather and the long days? I'm so happy I could squeal.

So, here's "two-week favs":

My friends at Crabtree threw me the most thoughtful going away party. It was funfitflavor themed. Talk about overwhelming....They all made recipes either from or inspired by funfitflavor. I was so moved.

Talk about yummy and healthy!!!

Then... it was time for a fun night out with the crew.... We kicked things off at Andres and Rebecca's new place with beautiful views of the city. So much fun!

Then... vacation time with Mandy and Kiley! YAY for nice weather and no responsibilities!!!!!

Representin' the Sox and polka dot bikinis!

The most amazing Mexican birthday celebration.

Finally, when I came home... it was all about Jenn & Brett. My cousin and future cousin-in-law at their shower! Doesn't Jenn look like a model? So pretty and happy! She's going to be the most beautiful bride and Brett will be such a strapping groom! I'm so excited.

Finally.... I have a fun little project coming up this weekend for the Komen/New Balance partnership, Lace Up 365. Remember, any time you work out - you can dedicate your workout with a photo and hashtag #laceup365. This program provides awareness of survivors 365 days a year - not just in October. Stay tuned for deets!

And remember... you are an expert. You may not even know it yet :) Have a great week xo

Weekend in Review: Celebration

Remember last week when I said "I have a couple of big things I'm working on...." and I couldn't tell you yet? Well, that was my sneaky way of dealing with the secret I was keeping... (I am an excellent secret-keeper... except for my own secrets - I always spill the beans)

So, I popped some bubbles at Ward 8 with Rob on Saturday night due to the excitement. I also got the Espinosa again. That little drink is so good!

We had the spinach dip, steak tacos and then Rob got the burger and I got the lobster roll. (Side note: So far, I love the food there, but, the lobster roll isn't worth it. It has a lot of mayo and onions... I'm a purest when it comes to a lobster roll - just give me a white roll and some butter.)

We continued the celebration with espresso martinis and a cannoli. Such a fun little night. So what were we celebrating? Well....

Β

I got a new job! I am BEYOND excited. As many of you know... I worked for Simon Property Group as a Marketing Director for 7ish years. I moved on to the  brand side of retail at Crabtree & Evelyn in the Summer of 2012. It's been a great experience... I've made amazing friends and I've learned a lot about the inner workings of retail that I've never experienced before. That being said, something inside me still misses the property management side of the business. Long story short... it came to my attention that the Marketing Director position at Legacy Place was open. After a few long interviews with some incredibly smart people, I got the job! I am elated. The timing couldn't be better and everything has worked out perfectly. I always say that when something is meant to be - the process of getting there just kind of falls into place. I really feel that way about this role. Eeeek - so excited!

Don't worry... funfitflavor isn't going anywhere. I love this little blog and the connections I make from it. It also keeps my marketing and social media skills sharp. Need to stay on my game, people! Anyway, I hope you all had a fun weekend to! Spring is almost here - it really is... even though it might not feel like it yet.

Have an awesome week! xo
