FlyBarre Review!

Hey everyone! I just wrote an entire blog post and it disappeared, yes it disappeared. Ugh. I hit publish and poof - it vanished. Anyway, here's my attempt at the re-write!

How was your Memorial Day Weekend? Wherever you were and whomever you were with, I hope it was relaxing, carefree, fun and spent with friends and family. My weekend was sooo relaxing and much needed after a few very busy weeks and vacation. Isn't it strange how we sometimes need a vacation from a vacation?

Moving on, last week I was asked to check out Flybarre at Flywheel inside the Pru. I've actually never been to a Barre class even though I have a handful of friends that rave about it. I was skeptical at first because my preferred form of exercise consists of hitting heavy bags, lifting weights, and running. That being said, I always love to try a new workout and like I said, I've heard great things about barre!

Rachael and I arrived at the Thursday night "POWER 45" class taught by Ashley W. I was pumped to have Rachael join me. Side note: Ever since we started going to NBGNO last year, my girlfriends and I have been having more "fitness dates". A lot of times, we still get apps & drinks after class, but, it's still so great to get in a good sweat beforehand!

First things first, Ashley introduced herself to every single person in class. I thought this was a really nice touch and also important to figure out who might be a beginner or potentially injured/prone to injury. Class got going and there were no breaks... hence "power 45". We kicked off with a quick warmup of pushups and some dynamic stretching. After that, we moved right into each muscle group. I was surprised and happy to learn that the little 1-3 lb weights were only really used for the upper body portion of the class. Everything else either utilized our own body weight or the bar and a band.

My favorite portions of the class included the glute or "seat" as they call it and the ab/core section. All the pulsing and concentrated movements for the 'seat' really made my tush burn baby burn! The ab/core section utilized the band on the bar and was really fun! Not surprisingly, the toughest portion of the class was SHOULDERS! Man, those little 2lb weights really challenged my biggish/muscular arms. Working the stabilizing muscles is no joke!  During this portion - I really had to focus and tell myself to ignore the burn in my shoulders. I actually broke out into a serious sweat - haha!

Throughout the class, Ashley moved from the front to the back of the room to ensure that everyone could see what she was doing. She also paid careful attention to everyone's form and made adjustments to us, when needed. The concentrated movements of Barre require proper form and posture in order to get the true benefit from the movement. Ashley did a great job!

All in all, I really liked the class and would definitely go back! It's extremely important to work all the stabilizing muscles and I left feeling a little bit 'leaner', if that makes any sense. I am looking forward to going back to the studio not only for another FlyBarre class, but, to also FINALLY try FlyWheel!! It's supposed to be amazing.

I hope you all have a great week! Here are my QUESTIONS for the day:

1. Have you ever tried FlyBarre?
2. Do you take Barre consistently, what improvements have you seen from it?
3. What is your favorite type of workout class?
4. Do you go on fitness dates with your friends?

VACATION Sunshine!

Heyyyyy everyone! I'm back, I'm back! As many of you know, Rob and I took a trip to St. Thomas last week so besides one scheduled post... I have been a bit MIA! We had an amazing trip and I truly believe it's important to take a break from blogging, social media, and phones every once in a while. Sometimes it takes a little disconnecting to regain balance. This post will be a mash up of "Friday Favs" and "Weekend Sunshine" -- because really, the week had a thousand favorite moments and a lot of relaxing sunshine! Here's how it all went:

I mean..... do I even need words for the above photo?

So, first things first... major, major flight delays and re-routing. We actually missed a full day. Originally, we were going to arrive at Noon - we didn't end up getting to the hotel until 10:30pm. It was ok though - we made the best of it - had fruity cocktails in the Miami airport and slurped down Ketel 'n Sodas as soon as we got to the hotel. Then, we were given a tour of the entire resort via golf cart. It was awesome and we were honestly just so happy to finally be there. (a few days later - we extended our trip into Sunday)

Rob and I would shoot hoops and hit the gym every morning. (I mean Rob shot hoops while I tried my best to shoot hoops and work on my layup. Good thing I had a patient coach)

Then... beach, swim up bar, make friends with everyone, rinse-repeat.

Fun dinners, drinks, and entertainment!

On Saturday, we took a ferry over to St. John/Trunk Bay after a million of you told us it was a MUST SEE. Well, THANKS, because wow - it was amazing.

MCM {insert heart eyes emoji}

Later that night, we had dinner with our new friends Chip & Katie. It was a perfect day and I'm so glad we decided to stay so that we could experience it. Back to reality now! We have a lot to look forward to this summer and I'm so looking forward to all of it! Keep up with the hashtag #fff_travels to see where we end up next.

I hope you all had a great week! xo

Questions!
WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR LAST VACATION?!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TROPICAL ISLAND/BEACH RESORT?
DO YOU HAVE ANY VACAS PLANNED?

NBGNO Shake it up!

Hayyyy everyone! How's the week going?! Hope it's great!
As most of you know by now, my love for New Balance and their #NBGNO (New Balance Girls Night Out) events runs deep. I started working with New Balance almost two years ago and went to one of the first events last summer hosted by Rachel from "Healthy Chicks", recap here. Then, I was honored to host two of the NBGNO events last fall, once with Dr. Brastianos and once with CAROLINE!. Recaps here and here. Last week, I went to the event with my best friend, Kim. The theme was "Shake it UP" and the main focus was on shaking our workout routines.

The event was hosted by the below fabulous and fierce ladies. Aly Raymer from B/Spoke and Stephanie Rondeau from I Train therefore I Eat.

These ladies killed it up there. Stephanie focused on changing up our workout routines. She loves to lift and talked about how she was asked to do a race - she did it and loved it! So the point? Run all the time? Give lifting a shot. Addicted to spin? Try yoga every once in a while. Aly suggested that as Bostonians, we should be taking a tropical trip in January every year - I thoroughly agree. No more winter blues!

Per usual, we were split into two groups. Aly lead spin on the Common - man that looked fun! Kim and I arrived too late to get into the class so we went with the run group for a very hilly 4 mile run through Beacon Hill. It was awesome and we were really able to catch up so I'm glad we ran :)

Nothing like running along the Charles!

A little post-run sweaty selfie action.

Once we all got back, it was time for healthy apps and drinks. New Balance always does such a great job with the sustenance!
